Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on Wednesday Morning, around 1:00am, Sgt. Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop on Hwy. 71 W/B near Old Lockhart Rd. on a 2016 Red Camry for a traffic violation. Meagher made contact with the driver and observed a holster in plain view with no weapon in it and the vehicle was occupied by 3 males. Meagher asked the driver about the weapon and was advised that the weapon was in the driver's door pouch. Assisting Meagher was Deputy Seth Nagel who arrived on the scene as consent to search the vehicle was given to Meagher. While searching the vehicle the driver admitted to having marijuana in the trunk. Meagher located two large bags of Marijuana in the trunk and two handguns in the vehicle. Arrested was 22 yr old Romario Nathan Barrett of Austin who was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with Unlawful possession of a Firearm and Felony possession of Marijuana. The other occupants where released with the vehicle.
