Carmine Firefighters injured in Mutual Aid Call

Two volunteer Carmine firefighters were injured Sunday night responding to a mutual aid call the Carmine Fire Chief & one of the volunteers were injured when their fire truck was hit by another vehicle. It was a hay fire & multiple units had responded, including Chief Chris Carmean and Cody Wunderlich. The first grass truck was able to cross the intersection of US 290 and FM 390 with no problems. The Second truck, driven by the chief, had slowed down but was still moving with lights and sirens on. Traffic had stopped to let them through, but a driver of a pickup stared passing everyone on the shoulder and struck the right side of the fire truck. Both Fayette County and Washington County EMS responded to the scene with Washington County transporting the firefighters and driver of the pickup to the hospital. The firefighters were released Sunday night with non-life threatening injuries.
