The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens that sheriff's office will never call demanding money or monetary funds over the telephone.
A Deputy took a report of someone pretending to be two different members of the Sheriff’s Office who claimed there was a warrant out for someone’s arrest. They demanded money before this individual realized it was a scam.
The call came from the Sheriff Office’s number. These scammers have the ability to clone phone numbers.
If you ever have any doubt about a phone call you receive, hang up and dial 979-968-5856 or go to the Sheriff’s Office in person.
Never give money, gift cards, or any other monetary funds over the telephone.
