Vehicle Arson in Weimar

Weimar VFD was paged recently to the Tesla Supercharging station behind Wildcat Express near I-10 for an electric vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Assistance from the City of Weimar utility department was requested immediately to disconnect power to the charging station. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control within a few minutes.
Although the fire was contained, the large battery that runs the car kept building heat and firefighters applied an estimated 30,000 gallons of water for nearly 5 hours to get it stable enough to transport to a wrecker yard. The batteries in these vehicles are very unpredictable and still could reignite even though it seems extinguished.
WVFD responded with 5 units, 24 firefighters.
The car was intentionally set on fire and is being investigated by law enforcement.
