Water Rescue in Columbus

This past Thursday at 8:37 p.m., Columbus VFD was dispatched to a reported water rescue on the Colorado River, with the initial location pinging in the area of Tait Ranch, for two stranded kayakers.
Columbus VFD personnel arrived at Tait Ranch at 8:44 p.m. and immediately initiated a search.
Numerous attempts were made to contact the kayakers by phone but were unsuccessful due to limited cell service in the area. At 9:13 p.m., contact was successfully established via text message between the stranded kayakers and Columbus VFD personnel, helping crews coordinate the rescue response. Due to limited cell service and the remote location, crews instructed the kayakers to text 911, allowing dispatchers to obtain a more precise location and relay that information to responding crews.
At approximately 9:20 p.m., 1477 (Rescue Boat) was launched from the Altair river bridge boat ramp, and crews began making their way upstream toward the kayakers' location.
At approximately 9:50 p.m., the two kayakers were successfully located by the boat crew. Both kayakers and their kayak were loaded onto 1477 and safely transported back to safety.
