Arrest in Halletsville
Recently, an Hallettsville Police K9 officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 200 block of E. Fourth St. for an equipment violation.The driver was extremely nervous and could not provide any information about the vehicle he was operating. The dog was deployed to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert for the odor of narcotics.
Shortly thereafter, the driver admitted to ingesting heroin. Lavaca County EMS was requested to the scene, and the driver was transported to Lavaca Medical Center. During a search of the vehicle, approximately 11 grams of methamphetamine and an unknown substance believed to be mushrooms were located. Upon further search, tools commonly used in vehicle thefts were also located.
Contact was made with the Corpus Christi Police Department, which advised that the vehicle had just been stolen but had not yet been reported.
The driver was charged with the following offenses:
• Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
• Possession of Criminal Instrument
