Drug Arrest in La Grange

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Friday March 20th at approximately 11:52 a.m., Fayette County Sheriff’s Drug Interdiction Investigator Smith conducted a traffic stop on a 2019 white Toyota Corolla passenger car on State Highway 71 W/B near La Grange, Texas, for multiple traffic violations.
During the stop, indicators of criminal activity were observed. The driver then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended after a brief pursuit.
A consent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of approximately 42.5 pounds (19.25 kilograms) of suspected methamphetamine concealed in multiple bundles.
Arrested and charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evading Arrest and Detention was 38 yr. old Jose Manuel Gomez Alvarez of Rockdale and charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance was 24 yr. old Luis Christian Hernandez Cruz of Elgin Texas. Both subjects were transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
Smith was assisted by the Fayette County Narcotics Unit, Deputy Herman Olvera, and the Department of Public Safety.
