Local Superintendent announces retirement
At the December meeting of the Smithville Independent School District Board of Trustees, Superintendent Cheryl Burns announced her decision to retire at the end of the 24-25 school year, marking the culmination of an 41 year career in education, including 37 years of dedicated service to Smithville ISD. In a statement she read to the Board, Mrs. Burns said, "My time as a classroom teacher, administrator, curriculum director, assistant superintendent, and superintendent has been a wonderful, rewarding time in my life."The Board of Trustees expressed deep appreciation for Mrs. Burns' service, vision, and leadership over the years. They will meet after the winter break to lay out a plan for the transition process and the search for a new superintendent.
